Are you new to Linux? If so, then this is a good place to start!

just looking into linux, as i have begun programming as a hobby about 6 months ago and would like to get my hands on a linux live cd, such that it will not my current vista set up.

i am unsure of which linux version, but all i need is the very basics just to get a grasp of linux and how it works, without too much, as i will be a first time user to linux.

thanks, nicky g

Hi Nicky, usually it is possible to download a live CD from a given Linux distro website, f.e. Ubuntu live CD can be downloaded from the following URL: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

With Ubuntu you can also request a shipment of CD for free  that is if you can wait a few weeks for delivery... https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Ubuntu is primarily a desktop distro, however if your PC has a connection to the web then it is very simple to install development tools by using Synaptic package manager (you would do that on an installed system and not on a live CD system).
