Linux is great! I am completely new to Linux. I made the transition from a Windows only system to a dual boot Linux/Windows system a week ago, and I haven't used Windows since I finished reinstalling it.

I am accessing the controls for my sound card with this shell command:

$ alsamixer

I am able to use the level controls the Gnome interface provides, but I can't figure out how to turn the switches on and off. Can anybody tell me how to do this?

I kept on trying different Google queries, and after awhile I found an answer to my question.

After selecting the switch, it can me toggled by pressing the M key.
