Parallel MATLAB using MPI/PVM

Postby QuantumKnot on March 21st, 2008, 11:59 pm

Found this while doing some googling.

I don't know MPI but I have done PVM before. I'm tempted to give it a try.

with a single processor and multiple cores matlab can run parallel threads, u can enable it in its preferences. next step up from that is use of the distributed computing matlab toolbox

The benefit of using a toolbox based on free tools like PVM is that you should be able to run it without getting the sys admin to set it up. I'm not sure about MPI, but for PVM, you don't need root access to make a virtual machine across the nodes. You can install everything in your home account.
