Kernel tweak: swappiness

Postby QuantumKnot on February 8th, 2008, 12:25 pm

Here is a kernel tweak (that doesn't require a kernel recompile for those like Kamil who seemed distressed about it :P ) that reduces the chance of applications getting swapped into VM when it is clear that there is plenty of memory free (but sucked up by cache). So the kernel has a higher tendency to reclaim memory from the cache rather than swap out our process pages.

Here's an explanation about what this parameter does exactly

Kernel is a known as heart of the Operating system.it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources. There are different different kernel in the different Operating system .Recently Window 7 made new kernel for it.If you want to make your own kernel then you can make it with the help of Linux Script Programming.
