Fixing CPU wakeups due to nvidia driver

Postby QuantumKnot on March 26th, 2008, 10:20 pm

For those who run powertop often and use the nvidia driver (such as yours truly), then you would've noticed that the nvidia is the main offender of waking up the CPU, thus reducing power savings in the tickless kernel.

Well, there is a fix for this that will reduce the power usage and lead to better battery life (for those with laptops)

Insert this option in the nvidia driver section of xorg.conf

Code: Select all
Option "OnDemandVBlankInterrupts" "true"

The total wakeups/second used to be at 160ish during idle times. Now it averages around 80ish. :D
